What’s Included in the Turkey in Disguise Write the Room Activity?
This resource is carefully designed to offer teachers flexibility and students an immersive, engaging experience:
- 12 Turkey in Disguise Task Cards
Each task card features a unique turkey in disguise, perfect for sparking curiosity and discussion. The cards come in two versions: one with the disguise name displayed and one with a blank label so students can guess and name each disguise themselves. This variety adds an extra layer of critical thinking, as students make connections between costumes and vocabulary. - Color and Black-and-White Options
The activity includes both color and black-and-white card sets, so you can save on printing or go all out with color! This makes the resource adaptable for every classroom setup, whether you have limited printer access or are ready to brighten up the classroom. - 3 Recording Sheets
Keep students engaged as they record their guesses. Options include a blank version for disguise-only responses and a version with primary lines for younger writers, a version with a regular line. - 6 Writing Pages
To extend the activity, use the themed writing pages to prompt students’ creativity. They can write a story or a description about their favorite turkey disguise or invent a disguise of their own. These pages make a great addition to your writing center or a fun end-of-activity prompt.
How to Use Turkey in Disguise Write the Room in Your Classroom
Setting up the activity is quick and easy. Simply print, cut, and place the turkey task cards around the room. You can use it as a center activity, a fun start to the day, or a whole-class challenge. Here are a few ways to incorporate it into your lesson plans:
- As a Vocabulary and Writing Center
This activity offers a fun and effective way for students to practice vocabulary skills. As they move from one disguised turkey to the next, they’ll learn descriptive language by identifying and labeling costumes. Students will build language skills while they think creatively about how each turkey is “disguised.” - For Descriptive Writing Practice
Use the provided writing pages to turn this activity into a full writing workshop! Have students describe a specific disguise in detail, using sensory words and adjectives, or let them design their own turkey disguise. This task helps students develop their descriptive writing skills in a way that’s festive and fun. - As a Seasonal Early Finisher Option
Keep this activity handy as a Thanksgiving-themed option for early finishers. The interactive cards and recording sheets keep students engaged, while the independent nature of Write the Room allows early finishers to work at their own pace without distracting their classmates.

Printing and Paper Recommendations
To get the best results when using the Write the Room Turkey, I recommend printing the cards on sturdy, high-quality paper. For durability, especially if you’re using the cards in centers or for repeated use, consider premium cardstock. This type of paper ensures that the cards will hold up over time and the writing pages are crisp and easy to write on.
For an added touch of durability, laminating the prompt cards is also a great option, making them last even longer for classroom or homeschool use. This way, students can use them over and over again, with minimal wear and tear! The scotch laminator is amazing! I have been using mine for many, many years.
You can print the recording pages on regular paper.
