Tips for Nature Study Drawing
Once you have your supplies, it’s time to head outside and start exploring.
Choose a natural area near your home, such as a park, woods, or even your own backyard.
Encourage your child to take their time and observe the details of their surroundings, from the shape of leaves to the texture of tree bark.
When it’s time to start drawing, let your child do what comes naturally to them. Let them draw what they see. It’s important to remember that each child is drawing at a different ability. Whether that is due to their age, or experience drawing.
Try to not “correct” them as they draw.
It isn’t about the natural world. It’s about capturing the essence of what your chils see and is learning. Encourage your child to embrace imperfection and to have fun with the process of drawing.
You can use your drawings to study plant or animal anatomy, to learn about different habitats and ecosystems, or even to practice writing skills by creating descriptive paragraphs about your observations.
